Many thanks & big hugs to the SOCKS club at St. Catherine's!! They raised an amazing $3,248 for ASK in a walk-a-thon that they organized for their school. They walked in honor of Kourageous Kid and schoolmate, Charlotte.

ASK Starts New Program: "When Your Child Has Cancer"

ASK recently started a new parent orientation program entitled "When Your Child Has Cancer."  This program provides an overview of childhood cancers, treatment and side effects management.  This program is faciliated by VCU pediatric hematology/oncolgy nurse, Jill Shimp.  When asked about her motivation to start this valuable program Jill said, "I see how overwhelmed parents  are at diagnosis.  My goal is to have parents come to a location away from the hospital where they feel comfortable and where they are able to gain knowledge to help them through this trying time. I want the parents to have a sense of basic knowledge, comfort with the staff and the resources that are available to assist them. I want them to know that we care and we are here for them."

The next class will be held at the ASK Penny Tree office on February 7, 2012. Anyone interested can contact Jill Shimp at 804-628-0890
